The Art of West End Project (phase 1) is drawing to a close as the year ends. Over a period of a year groups from the West End Estate in Hemsworth have been working hard on all types of arts projects including drama, creative writing, video, multimedia and environmental art.
The project has been run by One to One Productions on behalf of the Westenders Intergeneration Group and has been over seen by an active Steering Group.
On Saturday 9th September a Community Fun Day on West End Park in Hemsworth brought people together to celebrate the project. An exhibition of work done through the project was exhibited in a marquee. There were games for children put on by local youth organisation Fundamental and Play Rangers.
On Monday 11th September participants from the project, and their families and friends, headed off to Cine World in Wakefield in limos and coaches for a formal premiere of the project. The evening comprised of a series of short films about the art work that has been done in Hemsworth including a film from Hemsworth Free Zone's 'Big Brother' project, poems inspired by the work of Turning Point, a multimedia 'virtual journal' produced by the West End over 55's Group and a film documenting the work of the Green Gym Project with input from Year 10 pupils at Hemsworth Arts and Community College.

There were also snapshots of other material that has been produced by the Youthie at Spring Life Centre and Operation Badger - the clear up campaign on the West End estate. The evening was opened by Ian Clayton of YTV. Some of the participants from the project will be setting off in style from Close Street in Limos.
One to One Productions and the Westenders Intergeneration Group are now working on phase two of the project - a book. The Art of West End DVD will be available by Christmas 2006.
